Monthly Musings Newsletter- Volume One
Welcome to the first edition of our newsletter! I thought it would be nice for you all to read about what goes on around here. 2008 has been an exciting year for us here at Terra Firma.
In May, we received 70 lbs of fresh Arnica cordifolia flowers. These were ground in our hammer mill, placed into large stainless steel vessels and covered with extra virgin, certified organically grown olive oil. In July, we processed 50 lbs of fresh St. John’s Wort flowers (Hypericum perforatum) the same way. We let these soak for 2 months, then we press & filter the oil and then have the tedious task of getting all the plant water out. This process takes an additional month- so all in all it is a 3 month process. Ah, but it is so worth it to have the beautiful healing infused oils of St. John’s Wort and Arnica! In July we also got a large shipment of fresh Kava Kava Root and fresh Gotu Kola leaves from Hawaii to make tincture with. With fall coming we soon we will be getting large amounts of fresh ElderBerries, fresh Hawthorne Berries, fresh PassionFlower vine, dried cayenne peppers, dried Hops and more, to process into tincture. Our tinctures are made with Certified Organically Grown Grain Alcohol and Distilled Water. We also let these soak for 2 months before pressing and filtering!
We have been trying very hard to use organic chocolate with our Kava Kava Hearts. After trying 3 different kinds of chocolate and many many batches and many many hours, we have decided to stop making the Kava Kava Dark Chocolate Hearts for now. We still have a good supply, so get them while they last! We might try again sometime down the line.
That’s all the news for now! Keep coming back and I’ll try to keep y’all updated on our production activities.
